The Story of Little Goat Farm
Ms.Kai Srikong is the visionary behind Little Goat Farm in Nakhon Pathom, Thailand. With an impressive academic background that includes a Bachelor's, Master's degree in veterinary science, her expertise in animal care and farm management naturally led to the creation of this unique goat farm and cheese-making venture.
Motivated by a strong desire to give back to her community and address the issue of surplus goat milk, Kai embarked on an innovative journey to transform the excess into a valuable product. This endeavor gave birth to Little Goat Farm's exquisite goat cheese.
Phra Pathom Chedi, Nakhon Pathom
Kai,The former vet used to stay in Nong Chok Village,a small village in Bangkok, Thailand. This village, known for its numerous dairy goat farms, faced a significant gap in farm management knowledge among its residents.
Kai learned from farmers, identified farm problems, and addressed them. We ran a veterinary clinic aimed at educating farmers on farm care and recognizing when to call a vet. We rented a small goat house and bought a few goats to practice feeding management, a major farm expense. Our goal was to develop a goat farm management model for enhanced performance.
Kai observed that the farmers were only selling goats for their meat, which resulted in an oversupply of goat’s milk. She realized the necessity of transforming them into practical products.
However, a product is futile without market share and profitability for farmers. It prompted her to seek a new direction. Kai's husband suggested that Europeans consume more goat cheese than goat milk and that goat cheese often fetches a higher price than cow's milk cheese. This insight inspired me to start making cheese to support the local economy.
Learning by doing, We sought feedback from chefs who tasted and guided us. Using scientific knowledge, We created cheese, and chefs helped me perfect it. We are immensely proud of our enterprise. We are true Thai artisan cheesemakers, having learned everything at our facility, our local bio-culture and cheese making technique.
Nowadays, Little Goat Farm has become a favorite among Michelin chefs and 5 star hotels due to its exceptional product quality and the unique flavors created by a local cheesemaker, setting it apart from the rest. We also support local farmers by sourcing our milk from small-scale, sustainable farms in the community.
